Police sources said the size of the demonstration had overflowed all previsions. It seems that many of the demonstrators had taken busses and trains from towns across the province. The crowd carried placards reading, ‘Government Scissorhands’, ‘We are without chalk’ and ‘There is no future without education’. At the end a manifesto was read, calling for ‘more investment and more quality’ with concrete measures such as strengthening teacher numbers, the elimination of prefab accommodation, as well has help for school meals, transport and school material.
There was also a demonstration which attracted thousands onto the street in Valencia where demands were made to the Generalitat to pay the monies it owes to the public education system.
