The children’s father remains in prison on remand as a suspect in the case.

Officers were also examining one of the river banks on Wednesday, in an area which is close to the A-4 motorway opposite property which is owned by the young children’s paternal grandparents in Las Quemadillas, Córdoba.

The Córdoba chief prosecutor, José Antonio Martín-Caro, meanwhile indicated to the pres son Wednesday that there is ‘increasing evidence’ to keep the brother and sister’s father, José Bretón, in prison. He declined to give any further information but said his department would oppose any appeal for release by Bretón’s lawyer once the secrecy order which governs the investigation is lifted next week.

What he did say is that the evidence is sufficient to keep Bretón behind bars until the day of his trial.
